This order from the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) says that you need to pay the annual asylum fee. It includes a deadline to pay the fee and send proof of payment back to the BIA. The annual asylum fee is $105 as of October 1, 2026. You can pay online at this payment website. Make sure to write down your payment tracking ID, and save a copy of the receipt. The BIA requires that you must send a copy of the receipt and a copy of this order back to the BIA by the deadline in the order. Find more instructions about how to pay and send proof.
September 22 Update: Thanks to ASAP members' lawsuit, a judge has ruled that the way that the BIA has been charging the annual asylum fee is illegal. We do not know yet what will change as a result of this ruling. We will update this page as we learn more. If you applied for asylum more than 1 year ago, you can still pay the annual asylum fee to the BIA by following these instructions.
If you believe the BIA sent this order to you in error: ASAP has received reports that people who should not have to pay the annual asylum fee are still receiving these orders. Find information for people who are included in their family member’s asylum application, or people who are applying for withholding of removal or protection under the Convention Against Torture.
